Located between Mont Ventoux and the Montmirail lacein the abbey of Sainte-Madelaine du Barroux (Vaucluse), 60 monks juggle a life of prayer and hard work.

The residents of the monastery live from their agricultural work, from the vineyard to the emptying, the whole community gets involved.

“I risked my life sometimes”

From 1985the monks of the abbey of Sainte-Madelaine du Barroux cultivated their vineyard using the same wine tractor.

Small downside, the tractor’s brakes failed and it became completely unusable.

Brother Michel suffered the whims of this old machine. “It was still very dangerous. Sometimes I risked my life,” explains the monk.

The monks first uses their own network, the friends of the monastery, in order to finance the purchase of a new tractor. But this was not enough to achieve their goal.

The nuns did not open a kitty to finance their tractor. They preferred an option that showcases the fruits of their labor.
