The Guadeloupe prefecture announced on Wednesday the one-month renewal of the curfew imposed on minors in Pointe-à-Pitre to stem an outbreak of crime, this time excluding the city center from its scope of application. .

Applied since April 22 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., this measure was ordered by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin to fight against “delinquency (…) increasingly young and increasingly armed”.

According to the EELV mayor of Pointe-à-Pitre, Harry Durimel, who described his city as “cut-throat” at the end of March, the rate of minors committing crimes increased from 12% to 38%, in an overseas department plagued by high crime.

At the end of a month of application of the curfew, the prefecture noted a “reduction of minors involved in delinquency” but judged ” relevant “ to extend it to ensure the “consolidation of this effect”.

A fine of 750 euros

Its extension targets the districts of Massabielle, Raspail, Boisneuf, Tour Frebault Henri IV and Assainissement, to which is added that of Lauricisque, in the commune of Pointe-à-Pitre and Grand-Camp and Vieux-Bourg in that of Abymes, according to the prefectural decree.

The perimeter of the ban, however, now excludes the center of Pointe-à-Pitre where, according to the decree, the police observed “a family presence of accompanied minors not causing any disturbance to public order”.
