It was during the traditional wreath-laying at the Saint-Louis cemetery in Évreux this Monday morning that Charles Giusti, 61, took up his new position as prefect of Eure, after having held the same position in Aveyron in 2022 to 2024 and in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands from 2020 to 2022. The sixty-year-old admits: “I don’t know Eure” and little more Normandy, except “Le Havre, the coast and Cherbourg where I stopped”. Because before becoming a senior civil servant, Charles Giusti was a merchant navy officer for 19 years. Originally from Haute-Savoie, Charles Giusti confesses not to be “a snowman”apart from a little cross-country skiing, but enjoys reading and is a “Sunday hiker”.
What priorities for the prefect
Like his predecessors, Simon Babre et Jerome FilippiniCharles Giusti places security at the center of his concerns. The new prefect approaches his mission with “humility and determination, with the intention of going out into the field a lot, listening to elected officials and residents, community stakeholders and the agricultural world”. A greater presence of the state on the ground which will allow, he hopes, “better readability and more relevance”. His schedule for this first week is already busy with trips to Menneval, Neubourg, Écauville, Bourneville-Sainte-Croix and Alizay.
This Wednesday, the prefect will meet farmers and visit two farms: “I have deep respect for the agricultural world” he said.
