THE French were five in number vying for a place among the last eight players. At the finish, there will only be two left in the table.

Émeline Dartron sets an example…

First of all, it was Émeline Dartron who won by beating the Russian Ekaterina Ovchenko, issue des qualifications and who had taken out the Tricolore Manon Léonard, seeded No. 3, in the previous round.

“I had to be careful because she is formidable,” confided a Frenchwoman who, after leading 4-2 then 5-3, pocketed the initial set (6-3). Always very attentive, Émeline Dartron continued. And once again after making the difference (5-3), she concluded with a break (6-3).

Stéphanie Foretz’s protégé, Diana Martynov, was not successful. She had a very complicated start to the meeting. Trailing 4-0, she recovered somewhat against Olga Helmi. This proved insufficient to prevent the Dane from pocketing the initial set (6-4). If the start of the second round proved to be balanced, it was the Nordic who concluded (6-4).

Tantsoa Rakotomanga beaten at the end of the suspense

It didn’t work out for Tantsoa Rakotomanga either after a particularly indecisive match in front of Selina Dal. The Frenchwoman would lead 5-3 in the first set. And then the German took the lead to not only catch up but also to win the initial set (7-5).

It remained particularly intense between two players close to each other. And the decision was made at the end of the second round. Taking the break in the 11e game, Dal confirmed to win (7-5).

Match of the day

A. Zakharova (RUS, 151) bat A. Charaeva (RUS, 238) 6-4, 6-3
Much was expected from the performance of Anastasia Zakharova, the No. 1 seed in the table. Opposed to her Russian compatriot Alinea Chareava, she would suffer to impose her way. And it was the latter who entered the match the fastest, leading 2-0 with a successful break in the first game. Of course, Zakharova could not be without reaction. Throughout the exchanges, she tried to impose her style, which allowed her to lead (4-2). But Chareava had resources and she was going to equalize at 4 games all. This first round was far from having revealed its truth. But the number 1 seed concluded with 6 games to 4. Chareava did not give up. She even led 2-0 then 3-1 in the second set. But little by little, his opponent chipped away at taking the lead (5-3) and finishing with 6 games to 3.

Carole Monnet eliminated

We were waiting for Carole Monnet, the No. 7 seed, after her victory the day before against Alice Robbe. She did not confirm against a solid Yuliya Hatouka. Out of service with no faceoff won in the second round, the Frenchwoman saw herself in great danger in front of the Belarusian.

The latter, after leading 5-2, won the initial set (6-4). She was unable to reverse the course of a meeting that was completely beyond her control. And by 6 games to 2, Hatouka continued on his way.

For her part, it only took two short sets (6-2, 6-3) for the Spaniard Irène Burillo Escorihuela to overcome the resistance of the Polish Martyna Kubka.

The Czech Barbora Palicova also had no difficulty reaching the quarter-finals after her victory in two sets (6-0, 6-4) against the Russian Ekaterina Kazianova.
