MP Hugo Prevost has officially resigned, partial legislative election in Isère at the beginning of December?

Hugo Prevost had announced his intention to resign from his mandate as deputy for Isère the day after accusations of sexual offenses targeting him. It’s now official. The President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet indicates having received a “letter informing him that he was resigning from his mandate as deputy as of October 15, 2024. Notice of his resignation is taken.”

Election in early December?

From October 15, a partial legislative election must therefore be held within three months in the first constituency of Isère (which concerns in particular the towns of , La Tronche and Meylan). The deadline is therefore set for January 15. According to several reports, in the different camps it is difficult to imagine voting during the holidays or at the start of the year. Within the parties, we are already planning to have a fairly short campaign with a view to an election which could take place at the beginning of December. With perhaps a first round on the 8th. The Ministry of the Interior and the Prefecture of Isère should communicate a final date very quickly.

Which candidates?

Last June, five candidates were in the running: Hugo Prevost (NFP), Olivier Véran (Renaissance-Ensemble), Nathalie Béranger (LR), Rémi Adam (LO) and Alexandre Lacroix (LR/RN alliance). For this new vote, there is confusion on many levels. In terms of certainties or quasi-certainties, LR candidate Nathalie Béranger should again be a candidate. Just like Lutte Ouvrière candidate Rémi Adam.

On the left, the name of Lucie Castets is mentioned insistently among the Insoumis. Problem is, the Isère socialists do not want a parachute drop. They are defending the candidacy of Amandine Germain, departmental councilor who knows the territory. Discussions to find a solution continue at the national level. If Lucie Castets does not come and the Insoumis still want to keep control of this constituency, will the New Popular Front resist and propose a joint candidacy? No certainty at the moment.

Among the Macronists now, will Olivier Véran return there? “1% chance that he will go there”we are told. If the former minister, beaten by Hugo Prevost in the second round last July, does not run again, it is the former deputy (substitute who took Véran’s place in the national assembly after his appointment to the government), Camille Galliard-Minier who would hold the rope. She has the support of Olivier Véran and the local Macronie.
