Episeulline is an associative and participatory grocery store which opened in April 2024 in Saint-Georges-d’Aunay (Seulline), in Calvados.

The first general meeting of the association which manages it took place on Friday September 27, 2024 in the presence of around twenty people, most of them members, Sylvain Varenne, mayor of Seulline, and Marie-Jeanne Madeline, deputy mayor of Saint-Georges- of Aunay.

In his moral report, the president, Florian Leray, recalled the works carried out in the premises transformed into a grocery store: floor, walls, windows, electricity, heating, etc.

This work was done by volunteers from the local group. Thank you to the municipality for investing 50% of the cost of the work, and to the volunteers who worked evenings and weekends. Without them, we wouldn’t have this place.

Planned investments

Thanks to different grantsequipment, such as a fridge or a scale, could be purchased. Others investments are planned.

The fridge we purchased was reconditioned. It was noisy, energy-hungry and it broke down. We are going to replace it with a family-style fridge and we are also considering investing in small patio furniture, as well as a sign to indicate our grocery store. We have one year ahead of us to use the grant.

A new opening day

The association counts 29 member households and 25 suppliersincluding 23 local. She continues her search for local producers. “Since the beginning of April, €9,836 in orders have been placed. »

The association is struggling to recruit new members, a discussion took place between the participants on the fact of making participation in the operation of the grocery store obligatory or notwhich can be a barrier to membership.

However, “not placing a moral obligation would result in a exhaustion people who run the grocery store. This grocery store is a collective project, based on participation and volunteering. If there is no more strength, the grocery store will stop. »

The opening hours of the grocery store have been modifiedwith a opening Saturday morning. It is now open Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
