The living room feels like coming home. Vintage furniture mixes with a warm decoration, far from the medical world. There, in the town of Moncy located on the border of Orne and Calvados, shared accommodation for seniors will open. To present the operation of this shared house which is aimed at seniors suffering from cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, visits were offered on Friday October 11, 2024. A place to live not like the others, alternative to the nursing home.
A building transformed for “different accommodation”
In the commune, the building was already designed to accommodate elderly people. “There has been a residence here for 25 years. Until six months ago, it was managed by the municipality, and then it became too difficult, with the passing of the health crisis and a declining number of seniors,” admits Bruno Deverre, mayor of Moncy.
We did not want to let this building, and especially this service for the elderly, fall apart.
The file has been in the works for two years: collaboration is established between the municipality and CetFamille, a company specializing in “different accommodation for seniors”. The latter now rents the premises, and ensures management.
Refreshed in every way, the former municipal residence displays a new face. A large living room, spacious bedrooms and a comfortable kitchen can accommodate up to five elders in shared accommodation. “Coming as a couple is also possible. »
Stimulating and guiding older people on a daily basis
“We wish to respond to social isolationand also prevent people from putting themselves in danger by staying at home,” says Dolores Portier, regional manager at CetFamille. Non-medicalized, the shared house is moving forward an overall objective: “aging well and living together”.
Our shared accommodation is secure, with life assistants permanently present, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a good intermediary before the nursing home.
The place is aimed at disoriented people with cognitive disorderssuch as Alzheimer’s disease. In order to “stimulate and guide” the roommates, the days will be organized around different activities including cooking and gardening.
“We also adapt to the demands of seniors by involving service providers, gentle gym and animal mediation for example,” continues Dolorès Portier. Moreover, animals companion are welcome in the shared house.
Several positions to fill
Already established in Bagnoles-de-l’Orne-Normandie, CetFamille indicates that its Moncy site will open “as soon as three roommates are registered”. No yet specific datetherefore, but already development projects shared by the municipality.
In the old presbytery next door, we could imagine creating a few additional rooms within two or three years.
