Five good reasons to take advantage of the 20th European Museum Night in Nord and Pas-de-Calais this Saturday

1 Discoveries by flashlight or candle!

Any nocturnal visit is full of mystery. This is what makes Museum Night so charming. Since the start of the operation, a certain number of sites have offered the discovery of their collections with unique lighting, that of a flashlight (at the LaM, museum of modern art and at the Musée du Terroir in Villeneuve-d’Ascq and at the Henri-Boez museum in Maubeuge), tealight holders (at the Forum antique de Bavay) or even candle lighting (this will be the case at the Musée des Écoles de Lille for an unforgettable dictation).

2 Guides that will surprise you…

Museum Night is a special moment. Demonstration with the operation “The class, the work”, carried out in partnership with schools, middle schools and high schools and which allows schoolchildren to play, for one evening, guides and cultural mediators around a chosen work and which will have been the subject of study work. The ambition here is to attract a school and family audience. The Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, the MUba Eugène-Leroy in Tourcoing, the Château-Museum in Boulogne, the Musée du Touquet, the Cité de lalace in Calais, the Textile Museum in Fourmies and the Forum in Bavay are participating. This year.

3 Labeled sites and exhibitions, because they are worth it!

For Museum Night, the latter highlight their assets. This will be the case of the Museum of the Battle of Fromelles, which has recently received the name “Museum of France” (it is the 86e to achieve this recognition in Hauts-de-France), but also the LaM of Villeneuve-d’Ascq whose first major retrospective dedicated to the Italian artist Marisa Merz received the label “Exhibition of national interest”.

4 Impressionist masterpieces by night

This year France is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, a movement which revolutionized creation and thereby the history of art. To mark the occasion, the Musée d’Orsay lent numerous masterpieces to five museums in Hauts-de-France. Museum Night will be an opportunity to discover Monet at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille and at La Chartreuse in Douai, Degas, Renoir and Pissarro at La Piscine in Roubaix, Manet in Amiens, Seurat, Signac, Monet and many others at the MUba in Tourcoing.

5 Concerts, poetry, video mapping and much more…

To make Museum Night a magical moment, the museums compete in imagination: you can, among other activities, enjoy a luminous stroll among the mannequins of the Caudry lace museum; a video mapping at the MUba and a concert by Syrian artists at the Arab World Institute in Tourcoing; a lace humor festival at the Cité de la mode in Calais; a calligrapher’s performance at the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux Abbey Tower museum; an audiovisual stroll at the Sandelin museum in Saint-Omer; dances and tasting of seafood at the Estampe de Gravelines museum; a circus evening at the Lewarde Mining Historic Center…
