The national transport company Dakar Dem Dikk (DDD) has a debt of 4.9 billion CFA francs to pay, in addition to being faced with an “unsustainable” payroll and “irregularities” in the payment of amounts collected from users of its buses, we learned from its general director, Assane Mbengue, Friday in Dakar.

“The financial situation of Dakar Dem Dikk is marked by […] an unsustainable debt, estimated at 4.9 billion CFA francs. This situation is explained by an increase in the number of employees, which went from double to double and led to an increase in the payroll of almost 60%, with a peak in 2019,” declared Mr. Mbengue during a press conference.

To date, DDD has 3,122 employees, according to its general director. Mr. Mbengue points out that the monthly payroll of the transport company is currently 1 billion 151 million 131 thousand 440 CFA francs, which has led to a “structural imbalance” of the company, which also experiences “excessive debt”.

Dakar Dem Dikk is also facing a high tax debt, despite the financial compensation it receives from state authorities, he continued.
