Samia* speaks in a soft, almost inaudible voice. “I was treated like a slave,” sums up the young woman when she describes her life after her marriage. The slaps came early. Often for futile reasons. After the birth of their first child, the situation only got worse. Samia lives almost as a recluse in her apartment. His life is controlled, almost timed. She is often locked up in her room when her husband receives a visitor.

6 months imprisonment with suspension

His relationship with his mother-in-law, who lives with them, is execrable. The young mother always has the feeling of being watched and judged in her role as mother. In 2022, just before the end-of-year holidays, the tense climate between the two women explodes. The mother-in-law grabs a rolling pin and runs out hitting your stepdaughter.

To defend herself, Samia grabs him and tears off his veil. It was at this moment that her husband, alerted by the screams, arrived in the living room and rushed at his wife and began to assault her. “ My wife is capricious, a little immature. She can be hysterical,” says this IT consultant who works during the week in the Alsatian region.

Under the somewhat stunned gaze of the court, he indicates that his wife easily manages to push him to the limit and that he has difficulty managing his stress. The victim’s lawyer insisted on the unhealthy family system in which her client struggled. “Cohabitation with his mother-in-law was very trying. My client lived locked up in her apartment where she suffered intolerable violence,” she pleaded.

The mea-culpa conceded half-heartedly by the defendant did not move the Public Prosecutor, who castigated in his requisitions the ambiguous attitude of the 32-year-old man. Ahmed N. was sentenced to six months of imprisonment suspended. He will have to pay the sum of 5,000 euros in damages to his ex-wife with whom he is starting divorce proceedings. This judgment will be entered in bulletin no. 2 of his criminal record, contrary to his lawyer’s request, which will not facilitate the renewal of his administrative situation.
