And shared composterthis is the new thing in Varreddes (Seine-et-Marne). Saturday October 5, 2024, the town hall inaugurated the new shared composting point, allowing those who do not have a composter at home due to lack of space or for economic reasons, todispose of their food waste. With this new equipment, no more excuses, everyone can participate!

For this project, in continuation of the one set up at the school so that the youngest sort their waste in the school canteen, is carried out with the support of the Smith from northern Seine-et-Marne, and ValorTri, a start-up from Pays de which supports communities in sorting food waste.

Support for the smooth running of the project

Composting well requires a few basic rules. The residents who came to the inauguration therefore left with a short guide. They learn some tips like the need to crush egg shells, not throwing away meat and fish. Guillaume Conti, founder of ValorTri, explains that he is fundamental to put food waste and not garden waste for the proper functioning of the compost.

The objective is not to do not leave room for rodents. A poster is placed behind the bins to best support residents in their approach. The bins themselves are clear in their explanation. Residents are invited to throw their waste into the middle bin, the intake bin.

An initiative that pleases

The feedback from residents is very positive. After the inauguration, each resident leaves with a smile and small bucket to throw away your waste. Once full, the bucket can be emptied into this new shared composter. The mayor says the number of people at the inauguration on Saturday is a record attendance. In total, 45 buckets were distributed on Saturday morning.

Monsieur Rivière and Madame Fressy, two young residents who have recently arrived in Varreddes, are pleasantly surprised. Another resident appreciates the fact that it is shared. According to him, some may not know how to do it well but here it’s simple and everyone pitches in and learns: “It’s a beautiful message of mutual aid and the whole town is connected. »

This is not the only village in Pays de Meaux to offer shared composting in its neighborhoods. Chambery now has this equipment as well.
