On October 10, 2024, the Bioeconomy Forum brought together 200 personalities from Switzerland, and Germany in Friborg for a day dedicated to the bioeconomy. Organized by the Economic Promotion of the canton of Friborg (PromFR), this meeting made it possible to present the potential of this high value-added economy in which “everything is transformed and nothing is lost”, as indicated in the press release. The event took place in the innovative industrial setting of bluefactory, providing an overview of local advances in this sector.

The bioeconomy represents a key area for the industrial and environmental future. It is based on the use of biomass to develop innovative products, materials and technological solutions. A transversal sector par excellence, it covers areas ranging from agri-food to biotechnologies, including the production of bio-sourced materials for industry and construction. At the heart of this day, participants were able to discover concrete projects, ranging from the valorization of whey for sports nutrition to the development of new bio-inspired materials. This exchange highlighted the Friborg ecosystem, where collaborations between universities, institutes and companies play a key role.

The forum thus made it possible to promote the attractiveness of the canton in this sector, which is one of the priorities of Friborg’s economic development strategy. With specialized clusters, such as Food and Nutrition et Swiss Plastics Clusterthe objective is to strengthen synergies and open the networks to new players in the years to come. Delegations from Switzerland and the cross-border region, particularly from the Grand-Est Region, took part in the event to strengthen international partnerships. The forum also welcomed around fifty members of the Club of Innovation Directors, a network bringing together heads of innovation from large French companies and representatives of the State.
