Murder in Laval: a young man shot dead in broad daylight

A cryptocurrency analyst was shot dead Thursday in broad daylight in a parking lot, as he was walking to his car after his day of work in a nearby office.

Police officers from the Laval Police Department were called around 5 p.m. to go to a large parking lot located on Daniel-Johnson Boulevard, a stone’s throw from Carrefour Laval, for multiple gunshots being heard.

They discovered a 28-year-old man who had been hit by several projectiles while he was in his car with his partner. She was not injured.

According to our information, he is a data analyst at ChainMyne. The cryptocurrency trading app has offices on the eighth floor of one of the towers overlooking the parking lot where the victim was found.

A hooded gunman reportedly fired at least five times before leaving in a Honda Civic. No arrests have yet been made in the case.

A large security perimeter was then erected due to the high number of entrances and exits leading to the parking lot.

On Thursday evening, police were working to collect evidence near the Mustang Mach-E where the victim was found.

At least five bullet holes could be observed on the windshield of the vehicle, in addition to shell casings on the ground. Shoes left on the ground were still visible around the electric vehicle a few hours after the murder.

The victim, originally from the Dominican Republic, succumbed to his injuries in the evening. She had no criminal history in Quebec.

The investigation was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec late in the evening.

This is the second murder of an individual linked to the world of cryptocurrency in less than four months in the greater Montreal area.

At the end of June, Kevin Mirshahi was kidnapped with three friends from his luxury condo tower in Old Montreal. Two women and a man were found safe in the West Island of Montreal the next day. Only the cryptocurrency influencer was still missing.

A 32-year-old woman, whose residence was raided by police a few days after the kidnapping, has since been charged with first-degree murder, although Mirshahi’s body has still not been found.
