The president of the National Human Rights Commission of Senegal (CNDHS), Professor Amsatou Sow Sidibé, promised to support the health policy of her country’s authorities.
“In addition to processing complaints, the CNDHS carries out awareness-raising activities, particularly for women and the authorities on the issue of access to reproductive health during the Covid-19 period,” said Professor Sidibé.
She spoke from Moscow (Russia) in a speech, a copy of which was sent to APA, on the occasion of the 8th International Scientific and Practical Conference on the Problems of Protection of Human Rights. This year’s theme focuses on issues relating to human rights and health protection.
In order to take care of health issues, the CNDHS has set up a protection service responsible for documenting human rights violations brought to its attention and proposing solutions to put an end to them, recalled the lawyer.
“A complaints mechanism has been established in this service which allows any citizen to contact the CNDHS in the event of a violation of their rights. This service is often used to support and provide assistance to citizens in the medical and social fields,” underlined Ms. Sidibé.
According to her, the African continent is vulnerable to the risks of new global epidemics and the spread of dangerous diseases. The challenge must therefore focus on accelerating the development of medical, scientific and technological capacities to raise the medical level and ensure the protection of populations against these scourges, recommended Amsatou Sow Sidibé.
