“Darmanin, assassin, you have blood on your hands! »: tried for having chanted this slogan hostile to the Minister of the Interior during a demonstration, an activist from Pas-de-Calais was acquitted on Tuesday by the Boulogne-sur-Mer court. The decision, taken after a short deliberation, is in accordance with the request made at the hearing by prosecutor Patrick Leleu.

“I fully admit having said that and I take responsibility for it,” declared at the bar the defendant, Grégory Lefebvre, LFI activist and local leader of the “yellow vests”, father of two children. But “I only did it as part of a criticism of the government’s repressive action,” he added.

His lawyer Antoine Chaudey stressed that this slogan had been chanted “in public, during a demonstration, in the absence of the person targeted” and could therefore “not be considered an outrage”.

“Intimidate, silence”

The facts, which date back to a demonstration against police violence on September 23, 2023 in Calais, were reported by two police officers to the public prosecutor’s office, who immediately launched a procedure, according to Mr. Chaudey.

Before the hearing, around forty people displaying LFI, CGT or Attac flags were present in front of the court, including the LFI deputy from the North, Ugo Bernalicis.
