Walk for Alzheimer’s

The Chaudière-Appalaches Alzheimer Society (SA-CA) will once again hold an IG Wealth Management Walk in Saint-Jean-Chrysostome on May 26 at Champigny Park. Check-in will be from 9 a.m. and departure will be at 10 a.m. during the event. The walking route will take place inside the park, allowing each participant to achieve the distance they wish.

“Today we are launching our walk, the IG Wealth Management Walk. We held one a few years ago in Lévis, but now we have renewed it and we are very proud to have one in your beautiful region,” underlines Sonia Nadeau, general director of the SA-CA.

Major sponsor of the activity, IG Gestion de Patrimoine has been involved in the cause for more than 10 years in the Chaudière-Appalaches region and nationally.

“Our former CEO was diagnosed very early with Alzheimer’s at the age of 48. Unfortunately, in the following years he had to leave the company. [Sa maladie] still evolving quickly despite being young. It was a trigger for IG to get involved and give back to the cause,” explains Michael Bilodeau, general manager of IG Asset Management in Lévis.

For the return of the march to Lévis, it is the MP for Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Martine Biron, who will serve as honorary president of the event.

“I am touched that people thought of me, because I am the Minister responsible for the Status of Women and it is especially women who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease. These are two cases out of three. There is a double impact for women because 70% of caregivers are women. So, I will try to represent you with a lot of dignity and I will be there to walk the walk,” adds Martine Biron.

An awareness event

Although the walk is a fundraising event for the SA-CA, the latter is above all an opportunity to raise awareness among participants and the population by raising awareness of its services, Alzheimer’s and various neurocognitive disorders.

In addition to raising awareness, SA-CA offers accompaniment and support services for affected families, conferences, training and respite. Currently, in the Lévis sector, one day is offered. Sonia Nadeau emphasizes, however, that the organization is working to open a second day as “we have a waiting list.”

An initiative from a Lévis residence

While the launch of the Lévis march took place at the Le Quartier Sud residence in the Saint-Romuald sector, it was no coincidence that the event was held there.

“For us, it is a residence that is involved and engaged. They do different activities year after year, they invite us for conferences. It’s a very important partner,” explains Sonia Nadeau.

The residence choir has also created a song for people with a neurocognitive disorder. She composed, wrote and recorded this song.
