Mr. Krawczyk was unable to confirm whether Drake was home at the time, but added that Drake’s team was cooperating with police in the investigation.

“It’s so early in the investigation that we don’t have a motive at this time,” Krawczyk said at a news briefing outside Drake’s mansion.

“It’s no different than any other investigation. It may be more publicized, but we treat it like any other incident. »

A security perimeter, demarcated by police tape and patrol vehicles, was set up near the international star’s residence, which is located in the affluent Bridle Path area.

Police responded to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of shots fired near Bayview and Lawrence avenues.

Mr. Krawczyk said the security guard was standing at the gate leading to Drake’s residence when he was shot. He was then taken to hospital.

“We have individuals who obviously fired shots and were seen in a vehicle. I do not have a description of the vehicle or the suspects at this time, commented Mr. Krawczyk.

“The investigation is still in its early stages. But as we have more information, we will share it with you. »

Mr. Krawczyk said he did not know whether the security guard was the target or whether the suspects were trying to enter the mansion. The police obtained video recordings of the event, but were confronted with the poor quality of the images.

The investigation comes amid a feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

The lyrical exchanges between the two rappers came to a head last week, as they both released several tracks that included unproven allegations directed at each other.
