What is this crane doing at the foot of the semaphore of Piriac-sur-Mer, (Loire-Atlantique) which dominates the tip of Castelli?

The semaphore mast has disappeared

On closer inspection, the semaphore mast has disappeared.

It has in fact been being dismantled since Monday September 30, 2024. The operation should last until Friday October 4, 2024.

Hors service

A lifting machine was installed in front of the National Navy building to remove the high steel structure.

The pylon served as a relay antenna for communications from the semaphore, responsible for maritime surveillance.

Out of service for several years (the French Navy had equipped itself with more efficient and less invasive means of communication) the mast was finally removed.
