What’s up doctor? On the medical desert front, it seems that the medical school file is not a mirage. As proof, Cy University clearly displays its ambition. That of a university which declares itself ready to host within its walls a Training and Research Unit (Ufr) dedicated to medicine, in partnership with the hospital. This would be a first in Cergy-Pontoise. A very good signal for the former New Town and beyond Val-d’Oise.

“We have a credible and serious project which has matured and which does not enter into competition with other territories,” argues Laurent Gatineau, the president of Cy Cergy Paris University. It is a project focused on the care pathway and community medicine through the training of general practitioners. We will not be on the scale of a Chu. The objective is to allow young people to continue their medical studies in Cergy-Pontoise.”

Opening at the start of the 2025 school year

It has already been more than two years since the university, the Cergy-Pontoise agglomeration, the Department and the City of Pontoise have been working to convince the government of the “necessity” of creating a medicine sector, seen as an effective remedy against the shortage of white coats. The prescription is clear: attract medical students and lead them to open, diploma in hand, their practice in Cergypontaine.

“We just need the go of the State and a little means,” assures Laurent Gatineau. These two conditions met, the spearhead of Cy Cergy Paris University evokes a possible opening at the start of the 2025 school year and “a gradual increase in power”. “We will have an operational medicine school in five years.”

The Ufr of Medicine would be located on the Saint-Martin site in Pontoise, along Boulevard François-Mitterrand, where the university has sufficient land reserves to erect a new building.

A hoped-for antidote against the medical desert, the birth of this new sector would also be a step closer to recognition for Cy Cergy Paris University, a young superior establishment with an appetite that never gets satisfied. “We were nothing 35 years ago, we must remember the excellence of our trajectory and that the State does not clip our wings and continues to support us. » It starts with medical school.
