Slow down the bass! Fearing a rave party, the prefect of the Territoire de Belfort bans all festive gatherings for three days

According to the prefecture, an unauthorized musical event such as a rave party, free party or teknival is likely to be organized in the Territoire de Belfort this weekend. All festive gatherings have therefore been banned until Monday in the department.

“We also like big, heavy sound”, assure the gendarmes on their social networks. But there is no question of leaving the field open to the “partyers” this weekend in the Territoire de Belfort.

Fearing a wild rave party, Raphaël Sodini, the prefect of the Territory of Belfort, took the lead and decided by decree to prohibit any gathering or demonstration, “rave party, free party, teknival type” in the department from Friday May 3 from 5 p.m. until Monday May 6, 2024 at 8 a.m. The same order had already been issued the previous weekend.

No prior declaration, obligatory for this type of event, has been sent. indicates the prefecture which, to justify its decision, highlights the risk of disturbances to public order. “No guarantee of safety, health, hygiene and public tranquility has been provided by the organizer(s).she adds, and no authorization to occupy the land or premises has been issued by the owner.”

The decree also specifies that the transport of any sound or amplification equipment likely to be used for a rave party is prohibited during the three days. Any infringement is punishable by a fine of 1500 euros. The organizers also risk having their sound system seized for six months and even possible confiscation by the court.

The prefect of Haute-Saône has taken exactly the same measures in his territory.

The gendarmerie companies of Saint-Calude and Lons-le-Saunier recently intervened to stop free parties in the department in April. Two installation attempts were foiled as they indicated this Friday May 3, 2024 on their social networks, with supporting photos. They administratively seized 70 m3 of material on site.

A year ago, 3,000 revelers gathered in Crans, near Champagnole (Jura). A “wall of sound” had been erected illegally in a field. 200 gendarmes were mobilized to supervise the free party and carry out checks. Numerous infractions had been noted.
