The 27e edition of the Fribourg International Organ Festival takes place from September 26 to 29, 2024. An opportunity to present the very rich cantonal heritage in this field.

The 27th Fribourg Organ Festival welcomes, as every year, internationally renowned artists, indicates the Fribourg Organ Academy Foundation which organizes the event. It is held in conjunction with the annual meeting of ECHO (European Cities of Historical Organs) whose presidency is assumed this year by the City of Fribourg. Political leaders and organists from all the other member cities made the trip to Fribourg during these four days. Among these, Brussels, and Trondheim (Norway).

Rare sounds from Spain

The City of Zaehringen houses organs of great musical and heritage value, recalling the daily Freedom. The oldest date from the middle of the 17th century: this is the case of the Manderscheidt organs, the Saint-Nicolas cathedral and the chapel of the Bourgeois Hospital. The Fribourg Organ Academy Foundation is responsible for promoting this heritage and organizes the annual festival that showcases them. Events will take place mainly in the churches of Fribourg, but also in Payerne (for a master class) and Bulle (for the final concert on Sunday).

The cathedral, with its famous organs designed by the organ builder Aloys Mooser (1770-1839), will host a concert bringing together six organists, who will play a varied programme on the evening of 28 September, including rarely played music from the Iberian Peninsula. (cath.ch/com/lib/rz)
