Petit-Lancy, April 24

It is through the “Official Opinion Sheet” from last Friday that we learned that the City of Geneva wants to remove parking spaces from the central area of Boulevard Helvétique to plant dandelion plants. The City cannot tackle the biggest polluter in the world, so it attacks its own economy; it has already lost very large companies like banks, now it wants to harm local SMEs active in the food trade.

Let me explain, on Saturdays, these parking spaces are essential for the proper functioning of the Halle de Rive (the City of Geneva is the owner) and the Rive market. The City has not yet understood that these two food centers cannot function just with customers living in the surrounding blocks. We need more customers to keep these food businesses alive. They provide jobs, pay taxes and market gardeners are the very definition of the short circuit, a principle which must be favored according to the City.

May the City continue to make fine speeches about its desire to support its local economy by acting in the opposite way, may it continue to undermine the economic branch on which it sits by contributing to making our city empty of businesses, empty of life! There will be dandelions left, dead SMEs will always be able to eat them by the roots.
