We will have to be patient for the big unlocking in Quebec

In short:

• We will have to wait before feeling the heat in Quebec;

• A dominant trough slows down the rise of heat;

• Maximums below seasonal norms the first days of May.

Heat brake

An unfortunate synchronicity of air masses will ensure that when the heat from the south rises over the northeastern United States, a trough of cool air will arrive at the same time over Quebec. This will have the effect of blocking the progression of heat towards us and putting a brake on warming. It is not impossible that the extreme south of Quebec could experience some heat, but it would be short-lived.

Ridge to the west

The famous cretage which allows the heat to rise to our latitudes should gradually build in the regions to the west of the Belle Province. However, an atmospheric blockage risks maintaining a low over Quebec for a certain period. The heat would therefore be confined south of the border, as well as in the west of the country, at least for the next two weeks.

Expectations disappointed

Once we get into May, expectations for good warm weather are high. The long spring walk seems to drag on. Despite a brief burst of mild weather to end April, the mercury should remain below seasonal norms during the first days of May. We will therefore have to wait before the kick-off is given for the real summer heat.
