Tesla has shared a new video of its Optimus humanode robot, showing the technology’s ability to sort battery cells, walk around and perform other factory tasks

Tesla has shared a new video of its Optimus humanoid robot, showing the technology’s ability to sort battery cells, walk around and perform other factory tasks.

Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot, is a multi-purpose robotic humanode under development by Tesla, Inc. It was announced at the company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day event on August 19, 2021, and a prototype was demonstrated in 2022. CEO Elon Musk stated in 2022 that he believed Optimus had the potential to be bigger than the automobile business [de Tesla] over time .

In a video posted on the Optimus The video highlights the robot’s ability to perform these tasks autonomously, even correcting its own errors as it goes.

As shown in the video, the Optimus robot uses cameras, tactile hand sensors and force sensors to collect data about its environment. The company also says that the robot is already being tested in one of its factories, and that human intervention will continue to decrease as Optimus improves.

In addition to sorting battery cells and being tested at one of Tesla’s factories, the video indicates that Optimus can walk further than ever before, showing the robot taking a long walk around the office.

You can see the full video below, as posted to the Tesla Optimus X account.

Tesla has been sharing updates to Optimus every few months, showing significant progress with increasing its walking speed and accuracy in performing tasks. Tesla showed off the robot’s ability to fold laundry, sort objects autonomously, and perform physical movements like yoga. Musk also said in December that the units would be able to thread a needle within a year.

During Tesla’s Q1 2024 earnings call last week, Elon Musk noted that Optimus is already performing tasks in the factory and its use is expected to become widespread in the coming years. He said Tesla expects the Optimus units to perform a range of useful tasks in the factory by the end of the year, while it aims to sell the robots outside by the end of 2025.

In March, Mr. Musk also said that the price of Optimus would ultimately be less than $25,000 or $30,000, specifying that he expected its production to cost less than half of a car .

And you ?
