In Wallonia: the confirmation of Wilmès and the rise of Prévot

In Wallonia, there is no doubt that being located at 16, rue de la Loi makes you popular. The former Prime Minister, Sophie Wilmès (MR), and his successor, Alexander DeCroo (Open Vld), occupy first and second place respectively in the ranking. The one who was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2020 to 2022 garners 57.3% favorable opinions and sees her popularity soar since, in our previous survey in October 2023, her score was 50%. She recorded the greatest progress. The Flemish liberal has 53.8% favorable opinions.

In third place in the ranking, the president of the PS, Paul Magnette, totals 38.7% favorable opinions. Fourth, the president of the Engagés, Maxime Prévot, achieved the second most spectacular progression, going from 28.9% in October 2023 to 36.1% in this survey. Behind him, we find the leader of the French-speaking liberals, Georges-Louis Bouchez (31.7%), the former socialist Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo (30.2%) and the socialist Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder (30.1%).

Second Flemish personality to appear in the ranking, the Minister of Health, Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit), has 29.1% favorable opinions. The thunderous president of the PTB, Raoul Hedebouw, occupies 9th place (28.6%). In front, Willy Borsus (MR) which totals 27.8% favorable opinions.

Because of Brussels, the PS may not be able to set up an Olivier in Wallonia

In Brussels: the triumph of the last Prime Ministers

The podium in Brussels is the same as in Wallonia. We find in first place Sophie Wilmès (MR) with 56.3% favorable opinions. In second place, Alexander De Croo (Open Vld), with 54%. In third place, the president of the PS, Paul Magnette, harvests 37.8%. Follow him: the French-speaking liberal Hadja Lahbib (34.4%) and the socialists Caroline Desire (31.9%) and Elio Di Rupo (31.8%).

The president of DéFi, François de Smet (31.5%), who has seen his party tear itself apart in recent months, occupies 7th place in the ranking, ahead of the leader of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez (31.3%). Please note, however, that compared to our October 2023 survey, the boss of the French-speaking liberals saw his popularity decrease slightly since at the time he had a total of 35.2% favorable opinions. But the one who loses the most feathers is undoubtedly Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit). In 9th position, the Minister of Health, omnipresent during the Covid crisis, received 31% favorable opinions, compared to 37.1% in 2023. The mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close (PS), lands in 10th place (30.5%).

Lower in the ranking (in 18th place), the Brussels minister-president Rudi Vervoort (PS) is experiencing the greatest decline in the Brussels Region. It goes from 32.8% favorable opinions in October 2023 to 26%.

Small earthquake in Brussels according to our survey: thanks to Vlaams Belang, the N-VA would be essential

In Flanders: the fall of Vandenbroucke and Rousseau

With 45.2% favorable opinions, Bart De Wever undoubtedly remains the most popular personality in the north of the country. The president of the N-VA is followed by the Flemish Vice-Minister-President Hilde Crevits (CD&V), which totals 41.1%. Respectively, in third and fourth place, the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden (CD&V), and the Prime Minister, Alexander DeCroo (Open Vld), account for 39.8% and 39.1%.

If Vlaams Belang is (by far) the largest party in Flanders in our survey, its president Tom Van Grieken only occupies 5th place in the ranking of personalities in the north of the country (36.6%). In 6th position, the former Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken (N-VA), harvests 36.3%. He is followed by his nationalist colleagues, the Flemish Minister of Energy Zuhal Demir (35.3%) and the Flemish minister-president Jan Ham (32.3%).

In 9th and 10th place in the ranking, we find the two personalities – both Flemish socialists – who recorded the greatest decline: Frank Vandenbroucke And Conner Rousseau. The Minister of Health now has only 32.2% of favorable opinions compared to 38.2% in October 2023. The fall of his former party president is even more marked: the one who had to take a step aside because racist remarks he made during a drunken evening now has 31.4% favorable opinions, while in 2023 it was 43%. From the top of the ranking, he tumbles to 10th place…

Note that the first French-speaking personality in the ranking, Sophie Wilmès (MR), occupies 12th place and records good progress (30.8% favorable opinions, compared to 24.2% in October 2023).
