A mobile construction bridge tested by the Federal Roads Office has attracted attention on the Internet, where many foreign Internet users have called on their authorities to build a similar structure.

The new bridge of the Federal Roads Office (Fedrou) has proven itself in Switzerland and can now be used reliably. During construction work on a section of motorway, the 280-metre-long mobile structure allows traffic to be diverted over the construction site to avoid creating traffic jams.

This Swiss anti-traffic jam recipe is now enjoying great success on social networks. Under an Instagram post from the famous British pure player Unilad, the comments are going wild.

“Why sit in traffic jams for hours when you can do like the Swiss and drive over the roadworks?” the media outlet asks. And adds:

“The Swiss live in 2050!”

Commentators around the world are praising national engineering. And they are taking the opportunity to mock their own countries. “In the UK, it would be useless. We don’t fix our roads anyway,” writes one. Or: “Nigeria has left the discussion.”

400,000 tons per day

The enthusiasm is high and the managers of the Federal Roads Office are satisfied with an intervention that has just been completed on the A1, near Solothurn. Every day, the equivalent of more than 400,000 tonnes have rolled over the structure, without causing any major complications. There have certainly been several accidents and traffic jams, but these were not directly linked to the bridge.

The bridge and its 22 engines are currently undergoing maintenance. The next intervention is planned for 2025, on the A13 near Sargans (SG).

The surface needs to be renovated there. Perhaps the mobile footbridge will be talked about again on the Internet – or even abroad. Several countries have reportedly expressed interest.
