This is long-term work, never completed, carried out by the Fnaca de Maine-et- for several years. A remarkable collection made up of 300 files listing the Angevin soldiers who died in North Africa during the Algerian War and the fighting in Morocco and Tunisia.

“We couldn’t leave him in a cellar”

This Memorial Directory, originally led by Jean Bonjour, member of the Fnaca national committee and former president of the committee, now deceased, has just been handed over to the Maine-et-Loire Archives for access to the greater number.

Vice-president of the Department responsible for Culture and Heritage, Yann Semler-Collery understands the importance of this major work of transmission, which offers an almost exhaustive vision of these young fighters.

Three thousand hours of work were devoted to this research, completed during the 2000s. Many volunteers joined in…
