Various regulatory or pricing changes, more or less important, take effect this Wednesday in France. This is what affects those who live on the other side of the border in their daily lives, particularly European border workers and some Swiss.

Increase in the price of natural gas

The average benchmark price per kilowatt hour (kWh) of gas increases to 0.11061 euros for cooking and hot water, and to 0.08940 euros for heating.

For comparison, in April it was 0.10914 and 0.08792 euros, respectively.

Doubling of the fixed medical contribution

The patient’s contribution which is neither refundable by health insurance nor by supplementary health insurance, increases from 1 to 2 euros from May 15. The cost of each consultation or procedure carried out by a doctor (general practitioner or specialist), radiological examination or biological analyzes is impacted.

However, minors and pregnant women are not affected.

Revaluation of social benefits

Family allowances, active solidarity income (RSA) and the allowance for disabled adults (AAH) increase by 4.6%, compared to 1.6% on 1er April 2023. This revaluation, decided in April, will come into force on May 6.

Changes in the terms of access to MaPrimeRénov’

The conditions to benefit from housing energy renovation assistance programwill be adjusted from May 15.

Two notable changes. The energy performance diagnosis (DPE) is no longer required for insulation work or boiler replacement. And the renovation of housing classified F or G, considered “thermal sieves”, can now be subsidized.

Closing of online registrations for the European elections

To participate in the European electionswhich are held on June 9 in France, voters who wish to register online must do this no later than May 1.

However, it is still possible to register physically at the town hall until Friday May 3.

Income reporting periods

Income tax returns by paper form must be completed by May 21.

For taxpayers preferring to proceed online, deadlines vary depending on the department of residence. For example, it is May 23 in Ain, May 30 in Jura and June 6 in Haute-Savoie and Savoie, each time at 11:59 p.m.

But still…

Increase in the minimum wage. THE minimum wage increases by 2.65%, or 34 euros net, bringing the monthly salary to 1645.58 euros gross or 1302.64 euros net.

Financial participation required to use the CPF. To follow professional training via Personal training account (CPF), each employee must personally contribute 100 euros. Job seekers and employees who benefit from additional funding from their employer for their training are exempt from this new measure.

End of hiring assistance. This exceptional help, introduced in 2020 to support the employment of young people (apprentices or employees under professionalization contracts aged under 30), is removed for all contracts signed after April 30. The single bonus paid to the company and of up to 6,000 euros is reserved, until the end of this year, for the recruitment of apprentices in initial training.
