On this Wednesday, May 1, 2024, a public holiday, we celebrate Labor Day. And this has consequences on the lives of Brestoises.
Public transport
This is the only day of the year when Bibus takes a break: this Wednesday, there are no public transport services. Trams, buses and cable car cabins will remain in the garage. The Bibus store is also closed.
Parking
A public holiday means free parking. So don’t jump on your app to pay remotely and there’s no need to go to the parking meter if you come into town by taking your car.
Household waste
Attention ! As usual, a public holiday during the week automatically shifts the garbage collection day to the next day. Thus, as the Metropolis points out on its website, bins usually collected on Wednesday will be collected on Thursday, those collected on Thursday will be collected on Friday and those usually collected on Friday will be collected on Saturday. This applies to household waste collections (brown bin) as well as recyclable packaging (yellow bin).
Swimming pools
This Wednesday, May 1, all municipal swimming pools are closed. The Spadium Parc du Relecq-Kerhuon is, however, open from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (evacuation 30 minutes before closing).
The Capuchins
The Ateliers des Capucins are open, from 10 a.m. to midnight! Perfect for keeping children entertained under cover!
Media libraries and museums
The media libraries are closed this May 1 and will also be closed on May 7, 8 and 9. The Maritime Museum will not open its doors today, just like the Fine Arts Museum. However, it is possible to go to Océanopolis from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sirens test postponed
Every first Wednesday of the month, at noon, the sirens of the population alert and information system (SAIP) are the subject of an exercise, in accordance with the law. These Wednesdays, May 1 and 8, 2024 being public holidays, the monthly test for the month of May is exceptionally postponed to Thursday, May 2.
