The period of Archaeological excavations organized on the town hall square in Marmande following the discovery of human bones, at the end of 2023, will soon stop.

The second excavations, launched on March 11, 2024, concerned the part located between the two buildings of the Marmande town hall.

Remember that within the framework of work on Place Clemenceau, it is here that the technical room for the future dry fountain is planned. But when the earthmoving company started digging, they found human bones.

Work was immediately stopped on this part, and deeper excavations ordered by the regional archeology service.

Four archaeologists from the Regional Directorate of Preventive Archeology began their work on March 11.

They found skeletonscellars, remains undoubtedly coming from the former Cordeliers convent.

These excavations will end on Wednesday April 3, 2024. A period ofanalyzes finds.
