A small ski resort where snow is sorely lacking, Sambuy in Haute-Savoie has decided to close. Saturday April 27, a collective demonstrated to maintain the installations in winter and summer.

600 people demonstrated in the streets of their town to defend a chairlift and the survival of a ski resort. The Sambuy resort (Haute-Savoie) has three ski lifts and around ten slopes. But at 1,100 meters above sea level, snow cover becomes more and more uncertain. The municipality has decided to close permanently. Some residents refuse this decision.

The station had just celebrated its 60th anniversary. It offered local skiing with an affordable package at 20 euros per day. But according to the mayor, each year, Sambuy lost 500,000 euros. He has decided to stop the costs and plans to dismantle everything this fall. The station’s five permanent positions have been eliminated. A restaurateur does not know how long he will be able to survive. Many are banking on summer activity, hoping to keep the chairlift open for walkers. Opponents challenged the mayor’s decision before the administrative court.

Diagnosis and scenarios envisaged by the municipality of Faverges-Seythenex
