The Z’Arts du papier 2024 festival, organized by the municipality of Saint-Renan, has developed a partnership with the Photo-club and the Ehpad (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people) of Le Jeune hospital, aiming to celebrate, through the medium of paper, creativity, artistic expression and intergenerational connection.

The fruit of this joyful collaboration is an original exhibition which will be visible in the halls of the Lescao and Kernatous establishments until June 29.

Eleven people took part in the game

“Around the theme of this new edition, “I remember”, it seemed natural to invite the residents of Le Jeune hospital to evoke their personal memories or their readings,” indicates Gérard Reynaud, the director of the media library. The nursing home facilitators offered residents who wished to tell them some reading memories. Eleven people were willing to play the game. The discussion sessions with each resident were then summarized in short texts.

Laurent (right), resident of the Ehpad, with Yves L’Hénaff, deputy mayor in charge of culture, remembers all his books, 62 detective novels by Jean Failler, which he is reading for the second time.

“I will read them a third time if I have time…”

The Photo Club was also asked to take portraits of the eleven participants, in a reading situation. The souvenir text and the photo-portrait were then brought together in the same frame in order to offer, for each participant, both an image (photo paper, etc.) and a piece of writing. Laurent, a resident of the nursing home, likes to read, particularly detective novels by Jean Failler. “I am passionate about these stories, a whole series of books, 62 novels, which I am reading for the second time. I know them by heart. I will read them a third time if I have time…”.

Stimulate creativity

“This action allows us to highlight the memory that elderly people carry. It’s an excellent way to stimulate creativity, enrich an eclectic program and forge links between generations,” underlines Yves L’Hénaff, deputy mayor in charge of culture.

Throughout the duration of this festival, these photos will be visible free of charge during the opening hours of the establishments, particularly for the families of residents, who may discover unexpected memories in the texts offered.
