Nova Scotia: 15 rabbits abandoned in the parking lot of a house in Halifax

About 15 abandoned rabbits were discovered Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a house in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

It was around 6:50 a.m. that one of the owners of the residence located on Prospect Road noticed a cage on the edge of his parking lot. A total of 15 rabbits, including four adults, were in the cage, confirmed Sarah , spokeswoman for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Nova Scotia.

“They are in our custody because an investigation has begun,” she told Global News, adding that the animals are being examined by veterinarians to check their state of health.

The owners of the house where the rabbits were found also provided surveillance video in which a person is seen abandoning the animals shortly after 10 p.m. Monday night.

The SPCA shared the video “in hopes of identifying the vehicle and those involved.”

Frequent phenomenon after Easter

Unfortunately, this kind of incident is more frequent in the days following Easter. Indeed, it is a subject that comes up every year since many people let themselves be charmed by these little beasts, before abandoning them after the Easter holiday.

In 2021, no less than 236 abandoned rabbits ended up at the Montreal SPCA, the “Salut Bonjour” team reported last year.
