Friday, January 17, in the early evening, around a hundred people joined the village hall for the traditional greeting ceremony of the municipality. In order to break the routine of the speech, which is sometimes very long and has difficulty capturing the public’s attention, something new was proposed, thanks to the help of local filmmaker Bernard Lataste.

The speech was thus replaced by a film of around ten minutes. A format which received the support of everyone, if we rely in particular on the content of the applause at the end of the screening.

For 2024, we will note the increase in the Cocumontaise population with 1,155 inhabitants; the work on the Hauts de Bellevue subdivision, which is coming to an end; the end of the implementation of the External Fire Defense (Deci); improving the acoustics of the village hall; the repair of the tennis court and, of course, the highly anticipated start of work on Cœur de bourg 2030.

As the mayor, Jean-Luc Armand, recalled, “Cocumont consolidates its position as a town center and fully embraces it”, while “the artisanal and commercial dynamic is a major issue for the town”. Cocumont even received the 2024 trophy for “city and village of artisanal recovery”.

Two retarder plates

This year, the continuation of major and structuring investments is on the program. Two speed bumps will be installed, one near the school and the other near the sports hall. Local parking will be improved thanks to the acquisition of land; the PLU will be revised until 2028; a town center development guide plan will be drawn up and work on Cœur de bourg 2030 will continue.

All this will be done with a view to controlling the budget and, as the first councilor pointed out, without increasing the property tax (as has been the case for six years). During the evening, two deserving people from the village received the first citizen medals of honor from Cocumont, namely Jean Doazan and Jean-Marc Mourguet, for their involvement in the establishment of the cooperative cellar and their work with the local wine world.
