On the night of Saturday January 18 to Sunday January 19, 2025, the Riu Baobab hotel in Pointe Séréne was the target of a spectacular robbery.
The attackers, heavily armed, took away loot currently estimated at 12.1 million FCFA, as well as several valuable objects according to seneweb. During the attack, the windows of two pick-up trucks belonging to the establishment were also damaged. This hotel complex, inaugurated by President Macky Sall, constitutes a flagship of Senegalese tourism. With an investment of more than 92 billion FCFA, it was to accommodate 522 rooms in its first phase, for a total of 1,024 in the long term.
However, this incident highlights the persistent security challenges in the Petite-Côte region, where attacks targeting tourists and residents are regularly reported. Added to this are concerns linked to drug trafficking which is rife on the Senegalese coast.
