Aubrey Plaza has broken her silence on the tragic death of her husband Jeff Baena, three days after his passing.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” she and her family said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has given us their support. We ask that you respect our privacy during this period.”
The cause of death at the age of 47 of the director and screenwriter on January 3 was suicide, according to the Los Angeles medical examiner. County police confirmed that authorities responded to a call near Jeff Baena’s residence the same day. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The full report from the medical examiner’s office will not be available until the case is closed.
Jeff Baena and Aubrey Plaza met in 2011 and married in 2020.
“A lot has happened for me during COVID. Yes, we got married. The big deal,” the actress recalled during a December 2021 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We were a little bored one evening. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. It’s true, look.”
The couple usually remained very discreet about their relationship apart from their professional collaborations on Life After Beth, Les Bonnes Sœurs and Spin Me Round.
