The historical series won all the drama awards in a ceremony without surprises where “Hacks” and “My Little Reindeer” also stood out.

LBetting enthusiasts did not make a fortune last night. The 82nd Golden Globes ceremony, on the series side, ended in a victory for all the favorites, or almost. After his raid at the last Emmy Awards, Shōgun (Disney +), a remarkable historical fresco in feudal Japan, adapted from the eponymous book by James Clavell (1975), once again dominated the evening. With four statuettes, she left nothing to a competition which, it is true, has been weakened since the disappearance of Succession. Best drama, best actress for Anna Sawai, best actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, best supporting role for Tadanobu Asano… Shōgun stands out as a symbol of series which are diversifying, internationalizing, and managing to be a hit by speaking a language other than English.
On the comedy side, the competition was a little more open, with at least three series capable of winning the bid: The Bear (Disney +), ogre of ceremonies since its first season three years ago, Only Murders in the Building (Disney +) and its trio of stars, and Hacks (Teva), critical darling. It is the latter who wins, largely thanks to the immense Jean Smart who, also unsurprisingly, is crowned best actress in a comic role. The Bear picks up the crumbs with a third consecutive acting award for new star Jeremy Allen White, invisible since the launch of the series.
The miniseries category, usually the most challenging, is the only one on which a breath of surprise has blown. Let’s say a very, very light breeze… My little reindeer (Netflix), the punchy drama of the past season, also did a double with the award for best series and that of best supporting actress for the intense Jessica Gunning. A result once again identical to that of the last Emmy Awards… which the Golden Globes continued to imitate by rewarding Jodie Foster for her role in the last season of True Detective.
The copy and paste would have been perfect if it hadn’t been for Colin Farrell, the only voter on the sidelines. Unrecognizable under kilos of silicone in The Penguinspin-off du film The Batman by Matt Reeves (2022), the Irish actor wins the award for best actor in a miniseries. Foster and Farrell also offer a bit of Hollywood glamor at prices that have confirmed that series remain a separate creative space, revealing talent. Which is not very original either…
