Antoine Hayes directs a viking in a short film shot in South Aveyron

The land of the Grands Causses is regularly displayed on the screens. Prized by directors, local landscapes are distinguished by their ability to become, in their natural state, grandiose settings. Sometimes, in spite of themselves.

Because it was a bit by chance that Antoine Hayes embarked on the adventure of filming Choice, a seven-minute short film that he first broadcast on his social networks then on YouTube.

The storyline features Roghan, a viking who tragically loses his wife. The short film follows the hero in his quest for a mysterious stone, which should allow him to find the way to Helheim, where his beloved could be…

A first fiction

“It all started at the beginning of the year, when there was an episode of snow on Larzac”remembers Antoine. With a friend, they go there and start shooting shots. “In fact, we realized that it looked really good, we said to ourselves that we had to do something”continues the young filmmaker.

He quickly wrote a screenplay and found his plot. Although he is experienced in filming – Antoine took and obtained an audiovisual BTS in – this is the first time that he has embarked on the production of fiction. A project that he will carry out with Kévin Démon, actor, and Noëmie Dressayre, photographer.

“We started looking for somewhat emblematic corners and it’s true that the result is great”he continues. The Millavois notably set up his camera near Saint-Jean-de-Balmes on the Causse Noir, but also at Canalettes on the Larzac or even at La Couvertoirade…

“During editing, I also played with the colorimetry, as Roghan gets closer to Helheim”explains the filmmaker. The editing, the other part which took time from the young director. “All the sound was done after filming, which required a lot of work to be truly synchronoushe continues.

Projects for the future

After production, the question of broadcasting the short film arose. Present on social networks, Antoine decided to cut it into several parts and make it accessible to the public first on Instagram, before publishing the entire video on YouTube. “The feedback is pretty crazy, slips the one who created his production company Alkastrom prod. We reached two million views overall on Instagram.”

This first short film could well have a sequel in the coming months. “What I like about audiovisual is doing what I like”, assures Antoine, who is teeming with projects. With in particular, the idea of ​​traveling and drawing content from your adventures to exploit. Reality as a setting.
