“I am always very happy to come and present a film at the Sénéchal”, declared Lectourois producer Sylvie Pialat during the preview of the film “Quiet Life” on Friday January 3. “I read the script by the Greek director Alexandros Avranas and I immediately liked it. The idea came to him after reading an article in the “New York Times” on resignation syndrome, which was described in Sweden around ten years ago. This syndrome mainly affected the children of Russian and Yugoslav migrants. Alexandros Avranas deals with the story of a Russian couple who arrived in Sweden with 2 children. , to whom we notify him of his expulsion.”

“You should know,” continued Sylvie Pialat, “that Sweden welcomes migrants very well. They are housed, the children go to school. But, after a year or two, the time taken to study their file, if they are not accepted, it’s 10 days to leave.”

Resignation syndrome is therefore lethargy, a form of coma into which the child falls, as if to withdraw from the world, so as not to return where they came from. He can sleep for 2 or 3 years.

Resignation syndrome has been officially recognized as a disease in Sweden since 2014.

The film was presented at the Venice Film Festival. It is carried by a staging of cold perfection, a minimalist decor and by the contained violence of emotions. Actress Chulpan Khamatova, in the role of the mother, previously noticed in “Goodbye, Lenin!” and “Petrov’s Fever”, fled Russia in the wake of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

“Quiet life”, by Alexandros Avranas, with Chulpan Khamatova, Grigoriy Dobrygin and Naomi Lamp, will be shown at the Le Sénéchal cinema in Lectoure on Friday January 17, at 9 p.m.
