Every afternoon excluding public holidays, the three rooms of the Espace Martin-Luthe-King welcomed around ten girls and boys aged 14 to 17. They are middle or high school students. They could be apprentices, because, yes, obviously, even when we are in working life, throughout the year, we can attend the social center.
“Our neighborhood is not what we hear”
Since the Banlay social center was the only one to open for this age group, the young people of Banlay would have really liked to welcome young people from other neighborhoods. To spend good times together, but also to show as widely as possible that “our neighborhood is not what we hear. »
Sit around a table and chat
During these two weeks of winter, in addition to traditional activities such as games or evenings which they would like to be more numerous and regular, they also enjoyed, simply, sitting around a table and chatting. They were school friends. Their various educational orientations distanced them from each other. Getting together and discussing your present helps you build yourself.
And then there are the cooking workshops, sometimes with the help of mothers who learn recipes. There, it seems that some people let the banana cake burn, which should have been so good. Perhaps it is also the fault of the timer which was incorrectly set. But it doesn’t matter. We look for limits, we laugh, we make memories. It is surely for this project that a social center is intended.
During informal discussions, some had proposed collective projects. The pergola with Thierry Chardonneret the gardener is one of them. A humanitarian trip is another. Obviously, these two weeks must have been conducive to talking about these choices, to thinking about them.
