Ganges, in Hérault, has been hosting a state-of-the-art MRI for several weeks. This investment supported by the regional health agency and the Cap Santé medical group was particularly expected at the foot of the Cévennes.

At the Saint-Louis clinic in Ganges (Hérault) there is a newcomer that the residents have been waiting for. In recent weeks, there is no longer any need to go to or Nîmes: a latest generation MRI is installed in the Ganges institute.

That day, Béatrice comes to take an exam. She made an appointment only a week earlier, and enjoys this speed: “it’s closer, faster and above all very practical” she smiled. Pauline, another patient met there continues: “I was offered to go to Montpellier, but that still takes me 45 minutes. There, it’s only a 20-minute drive, it’s much more accessible.”

Patients are not the only ones relishing the arrival of MRI. Thanks to its technology, MRI makes it possible to have images detailed details of muscles, bones and organs and this also makes the work of employees easier.

“For us, it was expected because professionally speaking it is always beneficial for us to train on an additional machine,” describes Carla Beteille, MRI technician at the clinic. And for patients, we also had a lot of requests because we sent them to Montpellier. This makes it possible to reduce the number in Montpellier and to carry out much more appropriate patient follow-ups here.”

The images are then analyzed by a radiologist on site. In case of emergency, MRI is once again an asset. “Patients who were admitted to the emergency room in Ganges previously had to be transported to Montpellier. Now, thanks to this MRI, these patients are taken care of on site, without all the logistics of medical transport” reveals Guillaume Fabre, a radiologist at the establishment.

In return for the arrival of the MRI, the closure of the maternity ward is still not digested. The reopening of the maternity ward is in the hands of the Regional Health Agency and the Cap santé group which carried out this MRI project.
