First announced in October 2024, the Galaxy A16 5G will be available in the United States later this month. This budget smartphone features a slightly refreshed design, an Exynos processor, and software support that puts its competitors to shame.
Nearly three months after the launch of the Galaxy A16 5, Samsung has announced that the entry-level Galaxy A-series smartphone will be available for purchase in the United States starting January 9. The Galaxy A16 5G arrives at the same time as the Galaxy Fit 3, a fitness tracker.
The Galaxy A16 5G features a 6.17-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a notch for the 13MP front camera. The screen has a refresh rate of 90Hz and a maximum brightness of 800 nits. The phone is equipped with an Exynos 1330 processor under the hood, while the one sold in Nigeria is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor. Samsung has not revealed the RAM and storage space, but it seems that the base model will have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, if the starting price is to be believed.
The Galaxy A16 5G has three cameras on the back – a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. It also has a 5,000mAh battery, 25W fast wired charging, a fingerprint sensor, IP54 dust and splash resistance, and NFC. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the audio jack available on the Galaxy A15 5G (available on Amazon for $192.44). The phone comes with Android 14 and will receive 6 Android OS updates and 6 years of security updates.
Samsung is also offering some nice perks with the Galaxy A16 5G in the US. In addition to having Samsung TV Plus which provides access to over 350 live TV channels and thousands of shows and movies, the phone also comes with a free 2-month subscription to YouTube Premium and 3 months to Peacock.
The Galaxy A16 5G will start at $199.99 and will be available in blue, black and light gray. Samsung will also offer a 50% discount on the Galaxy Fit 3 if you buy it alongside the Galaxy A16 5G on its website.
