Tuesday December 31, 2024 at 9:10 p.m., RMC Découverte will rebroadcast the documentary “Tower, bridges, stations: the genius of Eiffel revealed” directed by Thierry Fessard and Hugo Hernandez.

In the shadow of the Tower that bears his name, Gustave Eiffel hides an astonishing career and little-known works.

During 59 years of construction, he completed more than 500 works spread across the four corners of the globe. Bridges, stations, frames, statues… nothing stops him!

With each new project, he shakes up the world of civil engineering, he signs the most impressive works of his time and his achievements, each more exceptional than the last, impose a new style. That of iron, that of railways.

In Budapest, he built the Great Nyugati Station. A majestic building where stone and metal combine to define a new aesthetic.

In Porto, he signed the magnificent Maria Pia: the first metal arch bridge capable of a span of 160 meters, but also a precursor of the incredible Garabit viaduct.

In New York, he is the only one capable of erecting the frame of the Statue of Liberty. A legendary work that has held up against the wind of New York harbor for more than 130 years.

One hundred years after his death, his buildings are still as emblematic, robust and influential as ever. Discover for the first time how Eiffel spread his knowledge throughout the world: an omnipresent constructive heritage still in use today.

Thanks to the expertise of the greatest Eiffel specialists, 3D modeling and breathtaking aerial images, we will relive this fascinating era and meet one of the greatest geniuses of the 19th century. A man capable of shaking up engineering sciences with each of his achievements.
