The Region is launching a citizen consultation in order to decide on the name of the future Châteauneuf-sur-Loire high school. For this, from Saturday November 30 (and until December 14), the community invites residents to vote from its Internet portal. And to decide between the names of four famous committed women.
The Centre-Val de Loire regional council invites residents to choose the name of the future Châteauneuf-sur-Loire high school, based on the model of what has already been done with the Hanches school (Loir-et-Cher), now called Joséphine-Baker high school.
The votes, which open on Saturday November 30 on the community’s Internet portal, will make it possible to arbitrate between four names of famous women involved:
- Adrienne Bolland (1895-1975). The aviator and resistance fighter, who was the first woman to cross the Andes by air in 1920, is one of the great female icons of aviation.
- Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899). The naturalist painter Rosa Bonheur marked the 19th century with her refusal of conventions and her attraction to subjects usually reserved for men. She is, as the Region reminds us, “an emblematic figure of feminism and animal art.”
- Suzanne Grinberg (1888-1972). A lawyer born in Orléans, she is a key figure in feminism and legal advances for women in the 20th century.
- Berthe Morisot (1841-1895). Originally from Bourges, student
of Corot and muse of Manet, she became the first female impressionist painter and will be, alongside Monet, Renoir, Degas and Pissarro…, one of the main members of the movement.
To vote. Visit the Centre-Val de Loire Region website from Saturday November 30. You will then have until December 14 to make your choice. A new citizen consultation will then take place between December 21 and January 4, 2025, to, this time, decide between the two women who came as finalists at the end of the first round of votes.
The main characteristics of the future high school

As a reminder, the Region, responsible for high schools, agreed in consultation with the rectorate (notably for its location), in 2017, the construction of a new school in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire. The budget devoted to its exit from the ground (entirely supported by the community) is around 80 million euros.
The future high school will be essentially made of wood, “a preferred material to promote architectural harmony with the surrounding nature, made up of wetlands, wooded areas…”
The future Châteauneuf high school, efficient in terms of energy expenditure
and including a boarding school, will accommodate 1,273 students, including 865 in general and technological courses, 120 in BTS and 288 in professional courses.
