“On the chicken ready-to-cook (PAC), prices are low but the erosion of volumes continues »notes Simon Fourdin, director of the economics division within Itavi during a webinar on November 20. The drop in PAC chicken sales is -0.9% in volume between the first nine months of 2024 and the same period in 2023 according to Itavi according to Kantar World Panel for FranceAgriMer. The most pronounced decline concerns PAC chicken bio (-15.3% of sales by volume), for an insignificant drop in prices (-0.5%).

Positive sales developments in standard and certified PAC chicken

Only two PAC chicken references are experiencing positive sales growth in volume. Chicken PAC certified experienced a positive evolution of its sales in volume, + 10.5%. Note that at the same time, prices fell by 8.3%. The PAC standard experienced a more moderate increase in sales +1.1% while prices fell by around 7.8%.

The cut of chicken in the spotlight

French households tend to seek simplicity and turn to chicken cuts although more expensive per kilo. The growth in chicken cuts is +5.4% in volume with prices down 4.3%. In this segment, certified chicken is also doing well with an increase in sales of its cuts of 9.3% for a drop in prices of 3.6%. Organic chicken cuts are also in the green with an increase in sales of 2.8% and a significant drop in prices (-10.1%). Only the Label Rouge is lagging behind with a small drop in prices -1.3% and a drop in volumes estimated at 6.3%. “The cutting dynamic continues, except in Label Rouge”concludes Simon Fourdin.
