A bottle of acid
The accident occurred in the toilets of the establishment where three young people were handling a bottle of acid which exploded. All three were injured and transported to the hospital, one of them more seriously injured in the face. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy.
An investigation is open.
The prefect of Maine-et-Loire Philippe Chopin and the president of the Departmental Council (in charge of college management) Florence Dabin went to the scene of the accident.
A game on Tik Tok
According to our journalists on site, the college students were inspired by a game that circulates on the Tik Tok network. At the start of the 10:10 a.m. recess, hiding in the toilets, they mixed an acid and a firecracker in a bottle before blowing into it and producing the explosion. They then ran out of the toilets.
The isolated playground
Very quickly, at the initiative of the teaching staff, the playground was isolated by tape prohibiting people from approaching the toilets. The college was not evacuated and classes normally resumed during the morning.
A similar accident in 2017
In 2017 in Amboise (Indre-et-Loire), a similar accident occurred which left two people injured. Two young people then exploded a plastic bottle containing hydrochloric acid and aluminum foil, according to France Bleu Touraine on June 20, 2017. Here again, they were inspired by a game seen on the Internet.
A listening cell set up
When questioned, the prefect praised the exemplary reaction of the teachers, and the rapid intervention of the firefighters and police officers who all secured the premises and reassured the students. He added that a listening cell will be set up at the college.
