With his partner, Romy, Kevin Parent found a lover, a friend, an accomplice. Almost two years ago, his sweetheart, as he likes to call her, gave him the opportunity to reconnect with fatherhood just as he became a grandfather. The singer-songwriter, who already had a son from a previous union, welcomed a little girl named Billie-Rose in January 2023 and will welcome a second daughter in April.

Almost two years ago, you became a grandfather just as you were becoming a dad for the second time. It’s still great!
It’s true. My granddaughter calls me “cushy.” I find it cute, cushy… (smile) It’s very funny. As much as I blamed myself for not being there for my son when I was young, today when we talk, I realize that we have so much in common! We finish each other’s sentences, because we experience a bit of the same things. There is a father-son respect, but at the same time, there is a great bond between us. It’s an opportunity in life to be able to approach fatherhood with another maturity, another life experience. Do you think this makes you a different father?
Yes, but I don’t have all the answers to this question, because I haven’t gone through all the phases yet. With children, each stage has its share of joys and challenges. It’s a new time. Life brought me there. Who am I to say no to that?
Is there anything more powerful than love?

At 50, do you approach your romantic relationship in a very different way than at 20 or 30?
The relationship with others, the relationship with life is different at 50 or 70. We know that everything is not eternal in this material world. When you’re in a relationship, it’s because you want to be there. You don’t have to be there.
Your little one will soon be two years old, if I’m not mistaken?
Yes. Billie Rose is an early riser. Half past five in the morning is his time. When dad has shows and he comes home late at night, it gives him a few nights, but it’s worth it. She makes friends at daycare. I find it beautiful to see children who develop, who learn from others and who are amazed. I also like the intuition we have as parents. It’s important to have techniques that you find in books, but when you listen to them, you can discern their needs.

You recently announced that you will have a third child. When is it expected?
The baby is expected in April 2025. My girlfriend’s little belly is starting to show. She is as beautiful as a heart. Life goes fast. We have a lot of projects. We regularly remind ourselves to savor every moment of this pregnancy, because it goes quickly. We honor this state.
Do you want to know the sex of the baby or do you want to keep it a surprise?
It won’t be a surprise, because we know the sex of the baby: it’s a little girl. That will give us three little girls almost the same age.
