Moroccan cinema attacks the Oscars

After being selected at the Film Festival last May, Everybody Loves Touda was chosen to represent Morocco at the Oscars in the Best International Film category. This poignant drama, carried by the masterful interpretation of Nisrin Erradi in the lead role, aspires to nominations in major categories, such as Best Director for Nabil Ayouch and Best Actress for Nisrin Erradi — a historic first for Moroccan cinema.

Faced with this progress, Nabil Ayouch expresses himself with emotion: “Representing our country in these international competitions is an immense source of pride. I sincerely thank everyone who believes in the film and has supported us so far. “It’s a new door opening for Moroccan cinema and further proof of its dynamism.”

All-round mobilization

To support the film’s nomination for the Oscars, Nisrin Erradi has just completed a screening tour in the United States, with presentations to Academy members in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. A key moment remains to come: the announcement, in mid-December, of the shortlist for the Oscar for Best International Film, which will include 15
works.

The synopsis of Everybody Loves Touda introduces Touda, a strong and vulnerable woman dreaming of becoming Sheikha, played by Nisrin Erradi. In a Moroccan village, Touda sings every evening in bars, hoping for a better future for her and her son. Exhausted by the abuse, she decides to leave everything for Casablanca, the city of lights, where she hopes for a new start.
