A week of Demos concerts at the Cité de la Musique

From June 17 to 23, let’s go for a week of concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris with the Démos orchestra!

Since 2010, the Démos project has offered free classical music learning to children aged 7 to 12 who do not have easy access to this practice, for economic, social or geographical reasons. Démos (Musical and orchestral education system with a social vocation) works in favor of cultural democratization through musical practice in an orchestra. It trains the future citizens of 21th century by placing music at the heart of their development.

Each child is given a musical instrument and follows 3 to 4 hours of weekly workshops by instrument family, supervised by two artistic workers and a representative from the partner social structure. A full orchestra rehearsal bringing together local children takes place every 6 weeks. A large public concert closes the season. The children perform every year in an emblematic place in their region, and at least once on the main stage of the Philharmonie de Paris during their Démos course.

At the end of 3 years, the child keeps his musical instrument, can join a music conservatory or join an advanced level Demos orchestra.

Démos today has nearly fifty orchestras spread across the entire French territory, including rural areas and overseas territories.

As part of the end-of-season concerts, 15 Démos orchestras will perform at the Cité de la musique, from June 17 to 23. Concerts are also planned in all regions that host Demos orchestras.

On June 23 at 4 p.m., the Philharmonie de Paris is also planning a major concert as part of the Cultural Olympiad which combines artistic practice and sporting culture: The fantastic life brings together 200 young musicians, a large number of whom come from Démos orchestras and 40 young dancers from the Grenade group. Reservations are required to attend concerts.
