Marie Laurencin is a major figure in the Parisian artistic community of the early 20th century.e century. Passionate about drawing at a very young age, she enrolled at the École de Sèvres to learn porcelain painting, then continued her artistic studies at the Académie Hubert.
Avant-garde
Quite worldly, she rubbed shoulders with many avant-garde artists, and maintained an affair with the poet Guillaume Apollinaire.
His style gradually evolved from Fauvism to Cubism. Ultimately, she creates her own visual universe. It is characterized by graceful female figures mixed with animals and flowers, taking place within a soft atmosphere of pastel colors.
His still lifes and colorful bouquets are in this same dreamlike vein. She also worked in the field of entertainment, designing costumes and sets for ballets in particular.
